Australian blockedout internet access - after Chinese help for Austrialians

Australians will be unable to opt-out of the government's pending Internet content filtering scheme, and will instead be placed on a watered-down blacklist, experts say.

Under the government's $125.8 million Plan for Cyber-Safety, users can switch between two blacklists which block content inappropriate for children, and a separate list which blocks illegal material.

According to preliminary trials, the best Internet content filters would incorrectly block about 10,000 Web pages from one million.

so this will be fun sooking for bypass ways. Let me think, Google translate, proxys, direct downloadlinks, mail, .....

secondly who will sue them first ? damaging your business by wrongly blocking you...

and thirdly it would be interesting to see how the blocking is decided upon so that instead of defacing you could make it seem illegal in Australia and it gets blocked....

I am against such cyber safety measures. Blocking websites means that you are no longer living in a country that has a democratic regime. Australia should be very careful with their blacklists because they might end up being isolated from the rest of the world.
