ISP shutdowns the next level of defense
We have already seen the shutdown of websites, than servers and now we are seeing the shutdown of ISP's that aren't cleaning up their act (what is not very good for Belgium as there is no CERT here to coordinate the cleanup actions)
"Internet security firm MessageLabs said it observed a significant drop in the level of spam and botnet activity (PDF) after ISP Atrivo's upstream Internet providers pulled the plug on the company last month. The graphic to the right shows a collapse in the level of spam emanating from computers infected with the some of the nastiest spam-enabling malware, including the Storm worm, Cutwail, Srizbi and MegaD.
MessageLabs said the decline was due to the fact that a large number of command and control networks used to control these distributed malware spam systems were located on servers on ISP Atrivo's network."
This was also working against RBN network. The Internet is after all a cooperative network and if you don't cooperate and let others attack the other networks near-death than why should they stay connected to you ?
