#belsecparty new rss feed with interesting books to download

I am looking at too many books to not overload my twitter account

so I started a diigo listing of links to good books at scribd.com

this is th place to be

http://www.diigo.com/list/mailforlen/scribd?order_by=0

this is the feed to use

http://www.diigo.com/list/Mailforlen/scribd/rss.xml

for the moment there are 170 books in it from the last few days

so you better also look here at the shelf

* for the other books that aren't already in the feed (about 400)

http://www.scribd.com/my_document_collections/3426583

* for the read books according to scribd that haven't been taken up in the rss stream yet

and remember scribd does delete documents sometimes very fast (automatic copyright controls) and after complaints (and destroys sometimes whole libraries and links)

so it is not because it is there now it will be there tomorrow or within an hour

for more goodies follow #belsecparty

more to come because we like to party

how to protect your SSH - SSH attacks on the rise

- Filter (by IP) who can get to your SSH. Firewalls rule! Who can't get to your SSH can't brute-force your SSH.

- Reconfigure your SSH to only use password protected SSH keys and not permit plain passwords anymore

- Use hard to guess usernames. Yes, usernames.

- Move your SSH off port 22 to some obscure corner of the port space

- Scan your own network to find out where you have SSH running before others do. You might be surprised ...

- Use "fail2ban", though this doesn't help a lot anymore against the distributed scans we see lately

- Educate your users to use good passwords. Yes, even those users who have proven to be immune to enlightment.

- Watch your logs. It's a great way to learn. And knowing what the "daily noise" looks like is imperative to spot "oddities"

#belsecparty A long list of interesting books to download

http://belsec.skynetblogs.be/collection-of-books-10-janua...

okay you may need a scribd account for that

and to download you may need to upload a book or so

but go to gutenberg.org and download some stuff from there

and upload it to scribd and you are ok

you can also follow my twitter.com/mailforlen

of my scribd.com presence to be sure

it makes no use putting it in diigo because the links may be gone too quickly

and another 108 documents books can be found here

first change for 2012 : books to download and twitter alerts (and free proxies)

you can find links to books here

http://www.scribd.com/belsecblog

books I already know about but are interesting have been put in a collection

but as Scribd destroys my accounts from time and time I am not going to do much effort anymore

they will just follow each other (and not sure how long they will stay online either)

you will find the links and new books here

http://www.scribd.com/collections/3426583/interesting

the books I am really reading will be pushed to my twitter account

https://twitter.com/#!/mailforlen

the other change at the twitter account is that the frequency and number of alerts of updated twittertimes versions (kind of which articles are the most popular in the twitterlists) has changed

there are not so many of them anymore

and they are only made at 10 O clock GMT

the reason is that I have decided to keep only those that are actually read also by enough others and only those that have any sense for me also (knowing I have them also as rss)

and just to alert you there is a twitter list that will send you during the whole day free new proxies to use

https://twitter.com/#!/list/mailforlen/proxies

more changes are coming one at a time

#belsecparty movie : war games 1983

nothing is better than the original I always think

popularized the term hacker in the 80's (and cyberwarfare nonsense)

another proof that not everything should be in big bag (supercomputer)

and that the bigger it gets, the more it will cost to secure it because the risks become exponentially bigger

#belsecparty tv : the madoff affair (crooks and stupid believers)

you don't have to be a banker to make people you can make money out of nothing

even the biggest bankers and politicians thought (and still think) they can do it

here is one lone crook (who the banks want to forget as fast as possible)

#belsecparty tv : UK spooks against homegrown Muslim cyberterrorists

just as with any series the longer they run the less they stay close to the truth

I hope not so many believe all this and still remember it most of it is fiction
